What is AfterStages?
AfterStages is a focused resource on video post-production — the post stage of filmmaking, covering editing, sound design, color grading, VFX, and the festival run. It is part of the WholeTech Network of 110+ websites, each devoted to a single topic.
What exactly is ‘post-production’?
Post-production is everything that happens after filming wraps: assembling the footage, cutting it, designing and mixing the sound, grading the color, adding visual effects and titles, and mastering the final deliverables. It’s where the film is truly shaped.
Which editing software should I start with?
DaVinci Resolve is the most common starting point — its free version includes professional editing, color, VFX, and audio with almost no limits. Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, and Avid Media Composer each suit different workflows; see the Edit Suite section on the homepage.
Is AfterStages free to use?
Yes. Everything here is free and accessible — no paywalls, no mandatory signups, no pop-ups.
How is the video reel chosen?
Recent, substantive post-production walkthroughs are prioritized, then ranked by YouTube view count. Videos are embedded under YouTube’s terms, so all views and engagement go to the original creators.
